Once in a while, people need a breathing space and an escape from the pressures of life.  For this, people seek for amusement to be energized and get a feel of a fun world. Some would indulge themselves to reading comic books and continue following the story up to its movie version, just like the sequel Iron Man 2.

Iron Man 2 is the sequel of the superhero film Iron Man, shown last 2008. Its character is based on the well-known comic books published by the ever famous Marvel Comics. Iron Man is at par with the characters Spiderman, Hulk, Wolverine and X-men.

Tony Stark, who is the alter ego of the Iron Man, all started from the crazy idea of Stan Lee (Marvel comic book creator), to exemplify everything what young people dislike. It is an irony but as the story progress, readers eventually liked the new hero. That is the undeniable expertise of Lee.

Having Iron Man on the big screen plus the planned trilogy, just means it showed more than just a positive response from the readers. The sequel Iron Man 2 has also clicked to the fans. What is really interesting in the movie for me is how they played with technology.  Hi-tech armours were very fascinating.

Superheroes even if they are not real, are very amusing and somehow we can relate to their struggles and how they overcome them. Tony Stark who became the inventor of the powerful armours and being the armoured superhero, the  Iron Man, still has a vulnerable heart. This just makes readers all the more sympathetic and want to take care of the character, especially the female fans.

He does not have super powers just like most superheroes have. The armour has become his strength and serves as a shield to his damaged heart. Eventually, he had a heart transplant and somewhat became a humanoid. Even without his armour, he is a mixture of man and machine.

Iron Man 2, having the world already aware of Stark’s dual life, faces pressure from the different sectors. He is pressured to share his invention with the military but he is unwilling to do so. Eventually, new alliances have been forged and powerful enemies have to be dealt with.

More than just the character of the Iron Man, the totality of the movie is fun to watch. It allows you to escape from the real world and find yourself smiling even just for a moment. I will not be surprised if the sequel is still a big hit.

The soon-to-be blockbuster movie, Iron Man 2 had its successful premiere. As expected, it was a star-studded mega event filled with Hollywood’s A-lists and celebrities out in full force to support the blockbuster superhero. Everyone from Sylvester Stallone to Hugh Hefner to Sam Rockwell and Adrien Brody were present. As expected, the hit movie franchise stars like  Robert Downey  Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlet Johansson, Mickey Rourke and director Jon Favreau are in all perfect attendance. According to Rourke, they won’t be there if not because of Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr, who is the lead actor of the movie, expressed his sincere gratitude towards the fans, who from the very beginning supported the first movie all throughout its sequel.

Downey says: “I really have gotten to the point where I honestly appreciate it so much, because I wouldn’t be here…enjoying the sequel if the fans hadn’t responded, and made it the success it was.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, his co-star since the first movie was equally appreciative to the fans.

Paltrow says: “It’s very nice that everybody’s excited to see the movie.”

The beautiful actress admits that it was a great pleasure to work with Downey in which she plays the role of a feisty assistant named Pepper Potts.

Another famous faces on the red carpet was the rest of the cast of the blockbuster movie together with director Jon Favreau. Co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke,  and Samuel L. Jackson all feature in the new movie.

The 57-year-old actor, Mickey Rourke, who plays the role of Russian bad guy Ivan Vanko (Whiplash) in the film, have only nice things to say to his co-stars.

Rourke says: “Working on Iron Man was great. “I worked with some great people and it was real easy to work and have some fun.”

The box office experts already predicted that the Iron Man 2 could easily make over $220million, breaking the records set by The Dark Knight just two years ago

British fans are said to be very upset at the sudden move of the world premiere of Iron Man 2, which was due to be held in London’s West End. It has now been moved to Los Angeles. This is because of the chaos surrounding the volcanic eruption that is virtually leaving the UK in isolation.

The UK has been experiencing a virtual 100% ban on all flights since the volcanic dust started drifting across the UK. Now we all know that Iron Man would not have any problem flying through this cloud of dust, but Commercial Jets could easily be brought down if they flew through too dense a cloud of dust. I would suspect in his new Iron Man 2 suit that he should have even less trouble as well!

The uncertainty of air travel going to and from the UK and US due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland has left Paramount with no choice.

Paramount Pictures made this statement: -

“Due to the continuing air travel uncertainty, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have taken the decision to move the Iron Man 2 world premiere and junket to Los Angeles. Advanced discussions are in progress about a special screening at the Vue Westfield, the original venue for the world premiere on April 26.”

Take a look at this aerial image of the volcano that was released by the Icelandic Coast Guard. You can see why it has been causing havoc across Europe since last Thursday and has made the skies over Britain a near total no-fly zone. This means that the cast could not travel into the country, which would mean that the premiere would not of had the usual Pzazz that this, probably the top film of the year, should receive.

All the stars including Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, and Mickey Rourke were all going to attend the event on 26th of April.

At the moment the stars other scheduled appearances, like on Jonathon Ross’s show, will probably have to be cancelled unless they do it via satellite. At the moment the BBC have not said what they are going to do.

The UK fans of Iron Man 2 should not have to wait for the film though as it should still be released at the same time. However, this has come as a bitter disappointment to UK fans who were expected to attend in their thousands.

Robert Downey, Jr. is a highly accredited actor with two Academy Award nominations already to his name. He is thought to have really stepped into the spotlight when he appeared on our screens as Stark, the weapons-maker turned hero, in Iron Man. He is coming back to us again in the lead role of Iron Man 2, with his character continuing his heroic antics against new threats, government pressure, and an all-new arch enemy.

Downey admits that he has taken the films “more seriously than any other movie”. This shines through with his outstanding performance in the first film. He gave the following compliment that has touched the hearts of the avid comic book film fans:

“It’s mind-blowing to me because I’d always felt like I want to, and could do, something like this. I have probably taken Iron Man 2 more seriously than any other movie I’ve ever done, which is appropriately ridiculous for Hollywood.”

Fans were enlightened as to Downey’s own ‘at home’ personality when he added:

“I have an Iron Man head at home and various other bits downstairs but my home isn’t a shrine to Iron Man. But I think it’s cool.”

So now we know he thinks like Iron Man, but does he have the suit to go with it? Well, he was asked just this and replied:

“The producers keep telling me that they’re going to give me a suit with all the bells and whistles but I still don’t have it. I don’t know, maybe I should get it in my contract. It would be great to have one at home – a talking point.”

So who knows? Maybe someday soon we will be seeing Downey playing the role of Stark not just on the screen, but off-screen as well!

We’ve seen it all before. A fantastic, much-loved, first film gets followed by a sequel that is nothing but a flop. Is Iron Man 2 destined for the same fate? Already there is speculation that the film is a sinking ship before it’s even sailed! Just by watching the trailer, there are comments flying around like:

• Whiplash doesn’t seem to be wearing any armour
• It looks like there are going to be too many villains
• The whole plot just doesn’t look promising

Has the trailer given so much away that we can anticipate the film will fail? No. We can never rely fully on what we see in a trailer as to what the film will end up like. There have been many films with fantastic trailers, but have ended up a disappointment. The same goes for the reverse. Look at The Dark Knight’s trailer. So many thought it gave too much away and that the film would not live up to expectations. However, we already knew who the villains were going to be, so how could we put it down for revealing them? Did our prior knowledge that the villains were going to be the Joker and Two-Face make the film any less brilliant? Most certainly not!

The trailer did not reveal the shocking twists of the heroes and villains that were to lose their lives, nor did it stop us from feeling the excitement and anticipation of ‘what’s going to happen next’ throughout the film. The same goes for Iron Man 2. Do we really know Whiplash has no armour? Or are we jumping to conclusions? Are the villains we have seen really villains? Is there a whole lot more of the plot we haven’t been exposed to yet? We have only seen 3 minutes of footage from a 2 hour film. What could we really learn from that?

All we can do is wait to find out. If the first film is anything to go by, and the cast’s reputation for that matter, then Iron Man 2 is destined to succeed. It will be up to you to decide once you have seen it!

Well that was before Hot Toys revealed the launch of their new Iron Man 2 figure! Not only can we look forward to the action on-screen, but now we can take it off-screen as well!

Hot Toys are proudly presenting their Mark IV Limited Edition Collectible Figurine, brought out especially for the Iron Man 2 film. The figurine is a 1/6^th scale replica of the film’s hero, Stark, played by Robert Downey, Jr. It is completely movie-accurate, will top-of-the-range armour and light-up functions!
